Many athletic programs in South Berwick are organized by volunteers.  Please see the links above for contact information.

Please signup for programs early.  We must contract adequate staff and busses to offer these programs.   Each program has a minimum number of participants required to cover costs.  If you wait to sign up, we may not have enough participants to offer the program.

Ski Programs
The Recreation Department offers Friday evening skiing for students of Marshwood Middle School.  This program travels to both King Pine and Gunstock ski areas on alternate Fridays. Information on this program is usually available during fall conferences.  The department also offers a family ski program to Attitash.  The bus for this program leaves from the Community Center early Sunday morning and returns in the early evening for a full day of family fun.  Ride the bus, or drive separately; you can join us either way.  Information on this program is usually available in early December in Town Hall, the Community Center and at the High School.

Pee Wee Soccer
The Pee Wee Soccer program is offered in the spring and fall for children aged 3 to 5.   We encourage parents to volunteer as coaches for teams.   Click on the Pee Wee Soccer link above for more information.  If you are unable to signup online, you may do so in the Town Clerk's office during regular business hours or you may mail in the registration form found above to the Town Clerk's office, Recreation Programs 180 Main Street, So. Berwick, ME  03908.

Adventure Camp

This program is for teens ages 12 to 15. In 2007 we offered two trips each week to fun places such as Canobie Lake Park, tubing the Saco, and the IMAX theatre in Reading MA to see the latest Harry Potter movie!  Home base for us is the Youth Center on Willow Drive in South Berwick.  The center is open for a few minutes before and after each trip to assist with transportation delays.  Check out the offerings for each week on our online registration system through the link above.  Please signup by the Wednesday prior to each week of camp to insure we have adequate transportation for your child.  Signups after Wednesday will need to be completed in person in the Town Clerk's office during regular business hours.  Signups close on Friday at 5 pm.  Please do not "show-up" for camp on Tuesday.  You must pre-register your child.

Summer Camp

Our summer camp programs provide safe and fun activities for over 180 children each summer.  Signups are available online for each week.  You must signup by the Wednesday prior to the week of camp if  you wish to use our online system.  Signups after that date must be completed in person in the Town Clerk's office during regular business hours, no mail in registrations after Wednesday please.  Please signup early so we will be able to plan for adequate transportation for your child to our field trips.  Camp is held at Marshwood Great Works School on Academy Street (formerly called Marshwood Middle School).  Please do not "show up" on Monday expecting to attend camp that week. You must pre-register your child.

Tennis Lessons

Tennis lessons are offered each summer for beginners and advanced players at the Berwick Academy Tennis Courts.  Adult and childrens classes are available.

Enrichment programs include:

Mad Science, Wildlife Encounters, Happy Feet Starter Hikes, Archery, Preschool Adventures and Senior Center Line Dancing.   For details on these and other programs, please contact Sharon Brassard at 384-3306.

Strawberry Run

Our annual 5 mile run is held each year on the last Saturday in June in conjunction with the Strawberry Festival.  The 2007 race results can be found at:

See you next year June 28, 2008!  Please register early.

Who We Are

Our Recreation Department has a full-time Director and many volunteers for each of their events and programs. This Department works to provide many fun and interesting activities to all age groups here in South Berwick. The Recreation Department works with the local schools, sports groups, and the senior citizens of South Berwick and surrounding towns.

Who Funds Us
It is very important to know that there is a budget from the Town for this Department to work with. However, WITHOUT VOLUNTEERS, very little could actually happen.

The Eastern Trail has the potential to be the most significant recreational project along the southern Maine coast! Imagine walking - or biking - mostly through off-road woodland trails from Strawberry Banke in Portsmouth, New Hampshire to Bug Light Park on Casco Bay in South Portland. This is the vision of the Eastern Trail Alliance, whose members seek to reopen the former railroad corridor into Maine as a multi-use recreational greenway. Recreation Director Sharon Brassard and Councilman David Webster of South Berwick are on the committee for The Eastern Trail.
