Board of Assessor Minutes 04/09/2007
SOUTH BERWICK
BOARD OF ASSESSORS
APRIL 9, 2007

Chairman Suzanne Roberge called the meeting to order at 6:15pm.  Councilors present included Robert Gagne, Michelle Kareckas, Norma Tutelian, and Jean Demetracopoulos.  Town Manager Jeffrey A. Grossman and Assessing Agent Craig Skelton were also in attendance.

The Board briefly discussed the abatement requests:

1. On a motion by Mrs. Demetracopoulos, seconded by Mrs. Kareckas, it was unanimously voted to grant an abatement to Salmon Falls Woodwork/Court Square Leasing Corp., account #C1947P, in the amount of $43.56.  The business equipment was removed from placeSouth Berwick prior to April 1, 2006.

2. On a motion by Mrs. Tutelian, seconded by Mr. Gagne, it was unanimously voted to grant an abatement to Robert S. and Robert J. Johnson, Map 5 Lot 20A, in the amount of $10.89.  The assessed shed was actually on the adjacent lot.

3. On a motion by Mrs. Demetracopoulos, seconded by Mr. Gagne, it was unanimously voted to grant an abatement to Sheryl Johnson, Map 28 Lot 12, in the amount of 832.48.  The property is part of the business block on addressStreetMain Street and several buildings share common walls.  The sketch for lot 12 included the area belonging to the building on lot 13.

4. On a motion by Mrs. Demetracopoulos, seconded by Mrs. Tutelian, it was unanimously voted to grant an abatement to Suzanne Stanbro, Map 32 Lot 103A, in the amount of $71.39.  The condition of the property warrants an adjustment to the depreciation.

The Board discussed the request from James and Andrea Batchelder to merge two adjoining lots, Map 11, Lots 5A & 5B.  Mrs. Kareckas asked if the merger would effect the assessment.  Mr. Skelton stated that the total assessment for the combined lots would be lower because the second lot would no longer be taxed as a primary house lot.  It would now be taxed as excess land.

On a motion by Mrs. Kareckas, seconded by Mrs. Demetracopoulos, it was unanimously voted to approve the merger of lots 5A & 5B on tax map 11.

On a motion by Mrs. Tutelian, seconded by Mr. Gagne, it was unanimously voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:20pm.
