BOARD OF ASSESSORS
FEBRUARY 27, 2006
Chairman Suzanne Roberge called the meeting to order at 6:00pm. Councilors present included Robert Gagne, Richard Clough, Michelle Kareckas, and Norma Tutelian. Town Manager Jeffrey A. Grossman and Assessing Agent Rosann Maurice were also in attendance.
The Board discussed what action should be taken in regard to 102 possible supplemental tax bills due to missing applications for the homestead and veterans’ exemptions. It is unknown if the applications were received and lost or not received at all. The Assessing Agent and Town Manager both recommended that the “problem” be fixed for next year without sending out supplemental bills for 2005/2006.
Ms. Roberge polled the Council for their thoughts.
Mrs. Kareckas: Send letter & application, issue supplements.
Mrs. Tutelian: Need to fix for next year, but be fair to all.
Mr. Clough: Fix for next year and issue supplements. Everyone should be treated fairly.
Mr. Gagne: Fix for next year and be fair to all.
Ms. Roberge: Can’t defend & clearly explain situation, correct problem and no supplements.
On a motion by Mr. Clough, seconded by Mr. Gagne, it was unanimously voted to have a letter sent with the appropriate application for exemptions and give the property owners 30 days to respond. If no response, a supplement will be issued.
