BOARD OF ASSESSORS
MAY 9, 2005
Chairman Robert Gagne called the meeting to order at 6:30pm. Councilors present included Suzanne Roberge, Richard Clough, Michelle Kareckas, and Norma Tutelian. Town Manager Jeffrey A. Grossman, and Assessing Agents Joe Lessard, Scott Marsh & Mike Marsh were also in attendance.
1. Mr. Lessard gave a brief overview of the York County Assessors’ Return. The assessment is up slightly from last year. In response to Mr. Clough’s question, he added that the amount of the assessment is based on a formula which includes the Town’s valuation. The Board chose to wait and sign the return when the commitment is finalized.
2. Mr. Lessard explained the Ratio Declaration & Reimbursement Application. The Town needs to declare the ratio at which properties are being assessed and provide information regarding the number of homestead exemptions that have been granted. The ratio will affect the amount of the homestead exemption.
Mr. Clough expressed his concern with the potential of having to do another town wide re-valuation. Mr. Lessard explained that market values are always changing.
The Board chose to table taking action on the Ratio Declaration & Reimbursement Application until the meeting of May 23rd.
Mr. Lessard informed the Board that the Board of Assessment Review had met and voted to grant Mr. Hussey his abatement.
Mr. Gagne adjourned the meeting at 6:44pm.
